2 Crucial Considerations for Anyone Investing in a Bespoke Suit

1). What is your suit for?

The first thing I ask any client before we make any decisions regarding the look and feel of their suit and tailor made shirts is “what is your suit and tailor made shirt for?” The answer to this will influence virtually every choice we make from there on in.

If you’re going to invest in a bespoke suit and tailor made shirts, you need to be 100% clear on where it’s going to be worn. Is it going to be a suit that you wear to work every day or is it going to be saved for special occasions? Are you going to be travelling in it? You need to have considered all these factors beforehand. custom tuxedo NJ

Your tailor needs to be able to get to know you a bit, both in terms of your goals for your suit and tailor made shirts and your personality, if they are to effectively guide you through the decision-making process, so don’t be afraid to talk to them a bit! It will help them do their job better.

2). Choosing a lining for your suit that works with your custom made shirts

Once you and your tailor have established what exactly the function of your new suit is going to be and chosen the main cloth, it’s time to choose a lining to complement it. With many tailors this is easy, as they’ll just pick out the lining which is the closest match to the cloth and not offer you a choice in the matter. There’s nothing wrong with this approach, but personally I like to offer clients a choice of linings, as it’s a great way of adding a little extra personality to a suit and complementing your custom made shirts.

If you’re going for a more conservative feel, it’s still best to go with a lining that matches the cloth, or a dark one that tones with it. But if your suit has a stripe of some sort, or a check in the cloth, you could always accentuate that by matching the lining with it.

One ‘tried and true’ choice that never goes out of fashion is a maroon lining. It’s a classy alternative to a plain match that goes with absolutely everything. Conversely, it’s best to avoid green linings for business suits, as it will clash with virtually everything, particularly the pinks and blues many of us choose for our custom made shirts
